Marriage was intended by God to be a blessing to us. When God spoke of "man" here, he was not only thinking of Adam. I feel all of mankind was in God's heart at that moment. He knew these human bodies would inherently make us feel alone. God wanted to bridge that gap for us. In the same way that Jesus bridges the gap sin caused between God and man; marriage was designed to bridge that gap between people. Through marriage, we have one person in the world that we can connect to in a mysterious way. Our hearts, bodies and spirits connect in a way that makes us one.
I personally feel marriage is a major target the enemy has attacked, to try to separate us from the joy God designed for us. Marriages fail at an unbelievable rate today. At least 50% of the marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. The rate is even higher for second and third marriages. It does not have to be that way. We can draw a line in the sand and say no more. Your marriage can grow and flourish. You can be the example for others coming behind you. Our generation can stop this trend. We have the ability inside of us, and the God given power, to make marriage the thing of beauty as it was intended to be.
You might be thinking it is too late for your marriage. It is not. If you are thinking, "That is easy for you to say, your marriage has not been through what mine has." Think again. I have stood on the edge of the pit called divorce. There were times I saw no way out of that pit, but God did. He had a plan for me and he has one for you.
